Jardim Botânico

A quiet, wooded and charming neighborhood, between the Atlantic Forest and the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon.

Sharing borders with Gávea, Lagoa, Leblon and Humaitá, the neighborhood has a backbone, Rua Jardim Botânico, where practically everything happens. It's where the main shopping and service options are, as well as many office buildings, and where heavy traffic passes daily. At the same time, in the parallel and cross streets, the neighborhood breathes an atmosphere of quiet and exclusivity, with properties of the highest standard, especially those at the foot of the Tijuca Forest. As most of the population is made up of upper-middle class families, it is one of the noblest areas in Rio.

In addition to its good location, the Jardim Botânico neighborhood is notable for its abundant vegetation. The main reason is that it is home to two important parks for environmental preservation: Parque Lage and Jardim Botânico. The neighborhood is very residential, which guarantees greater tranquility for residents even in the midst of the South Zone's downtown atmosphere. A neighborhood where calm and practicality come together.

Jardim Botânico offers great options for restaurants, snack bars, cafés and bars. It's easy to walk around the neighborhood and stumble upon charming places for any meal of the day.

The café La Bicyclette, for example, has romantic, rustic decor and an excellent variety of breads and artisanal products. Everything is tasty and beautiful. Worth a visit are Pizzeria Ella and the Italian Grado, both located in charming mansions.

Another special place is Tutto Nhoque, in a beautiful little house with a view of the Christ from the terrace. The cool Maguje in Jockey is a great place for drinks and snacks on the terrace. Casa Camolese, also in Jockey, has an elegant and relaxed atmosphere, contemporary food, craft beers and good drinks, with a deck and a view of the horses.

Sud, O Pássaro Verde Café, on Rua Visconde de Carandaí, is another pleasant surprise. With just 12 tables, it feels like a place to write, read and cook, as if it were a residential home. Chef Roberta Sudbrack's new space is a delight.

Located 20 minutes from Rio de Janeiro's city center and bordering Gávea, Humaitá, Lagoa and Alto da Boa Vista, the Jardim Botânico district is equipped with numerous pharmacies, cafés, supermarkets, street stores, bars and restaurants.  Its main thoroughfare is Rua Jardim Botânico, which runs the length of the neighborhood and is an important road in Rio's South Zone. 

The fresh air of the Tijuca Forest, the leisure area of the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, the Jardim Botânico and Parque Lage parks and the shopping and dining options make Jardim Botânico a privileged place in Rio de Janeiro.  And all this can be done on foot - this is one of the great advantages of Jardim Botânico - where you can do everything without having to take your car out of the garage.

Being on the slopes of Corcovado Hill, the neighborhood is one of the coolest areas in Rio. This is because the region has an extensive stretch of the Tijuca Forest.  It's a place that inspires life and health with all its options for outdoor activities. One of them is the Rodrigo de Freitas Lagoon, which is a real invitation for walking, running and cycling.

If on one side you have the lagoon, on the other you have waterfalls, fantastic trails, lush parks and a forest that embraces us in a gentle and loving way. The neighborhood is home to one of the city's main tourist attractions, the Rio de Janeiro Botanical Garden, which has more than 200 years of history and more than 3,400 species of plants. The neighborhood is also home to a number of sports clubs, such as the Jockey Club and the Vasco da Gama Regatta Club. Between Pacheco Leão and José Joaquim Seabra streets, there are a few bars that form a nightlife hub.

The Jardim Botânico district has many attractions to surprise you, from a romantic dinner in the area's gastronomic center to a sunny afternoon with friends in Parque Lage. Parque Lage is a public park at the foot of Corcovado hill. It's a very cinematic place, inspired by the romanticism of English parks. The inner courtyard of the palace is one of the city's postcards. You can enjoy breakfast, lunch or drinks at the Plage Café. The park is also home to a Fine Arts school and lush nature with trails, caves and waterfalls. It's worth a stroll.
